Nightmare start can’t derail Glenswilly against Dungloe

GLENSWILLY POSTED THEIR first win in Division 1 when they overcame Dungloe at Rosses Park this afternoon – coming from 0-7 to 0-0 down to do so.

Dungloe 0-13 Glenswilly 3-11

The county champions, now under the stewardship of Adrian Glackin, posted goals at the right time and even could afford the luxury of a Michael Murphy penalty miss, with the Donegal captain hitting the post when his side were just finding their feet.

Eventually goals from Leon Kelly, Cathal Gallagher and Gary McFadden did the trick as Murphy popped over eight points, including two monster frees in the second half.

Dungloe, not so much with an awkward breeze that was going across the pitch, started impressively with seven points on the spin on their first home outing of the season.

Ryan Greene, Cory Gallagher and Noel McBride all scored fine efforts with Glenswilly seemingly stuck in the traps.

However, after Murphy’s penalty miss after Cathal Gallagher was fouled did at least lead to a point for the visiting side.

Adam Neely put the hosts 0-8 to 0-4 in front before two goals late in the half got Glenswilly in front, 2-5 to 0-9, at half-time.

The first of those goals came on 25 minutes when Gary McFadden won a turnover following a kick-out from Dungloe goalkeeper Ciaran Sharkey and Murphy set up Leon Kelly to blast home.

Then, in first half injury time, a long ball in from Ciaran Bonner was knocked down by Murphy to Ciaran Hunter and a return pass to Murphy paved the way for Cathal Gallagher to score his side’s second goal soccer-style.

Glenswilly added their third goal on 44 minutes with Gary McFadden punching into Sharkey’s net. Ruairi Crawford, who has moved home from Philadelphia, was taken on in the latter stages.
