USL: Swilly Rovers suffer two defeats in four days

Swilly Rovers, after losing out to Derry City Reserves on Thursday night, were beaten again today by Fanad United in the 4 Lanterns Ulster Senior League.

Fanad United inflicted a second defeat in four days on Swilly Rovers on Sunday.

Swilly started well and, from a Brandon Toye cross, Matthew Sweeney’s scissors kick was just over on 25 minutes.

Marty McDaid saw a 25-yard shot saved, but it was 0-0 at half-time.

Swilly’s Daniel O’Donnell hit the post with a with a pile driver on 50 minutes and Marty McDaid was denied after a fine run soon after while Laurence Toland went close on the hour.
Keelin McElwaine put Fanad ahead on 65 minutes with a fine 20-yard shot. McElwaine was set up by David Walsh.

Marty McDaid set up Daniel O’Donnell who made it 1-1 after a great run.
Keelin McElwaine shot was denied by a fine save from the Swilly keeper on 78
minutes.

However, on 80 minutes Keelin McElwaine scored from a fine low drive to
win it for Fanad.

Derry City 3 Swilly Rovers 0

Ramelton native Shane McNamee was on target on Thursday night as Derry City Reserves defeated Swilly Rovers in the USL.

McNamee drove home to break the deadlock and the young Candystripes were worthy winners as Paul Doherty and Matty Doherty also got on the scoresheet.
