Here’s what you need to know about Darkness into Light in Donegal Town

Have you registered for the Darkness into Light 5K walk-run yet? There are just 11 days remaining until the annual movement against suicide in aid of Pieta House.

The Donegal Town Darkness into Light committee is reminding everyone that all registrations must be done online this year at dil.pieta.ie and t-shirt pickups will be announced the week before the event.

This year’s event takes place on Saturday the 6th May at 4.15am and the start point in Donegal Town is the St. John Bosco centre. This year’s route is going back around the bank walk like it did in the first year.

“The theme for this year’s event is ‘Wake Up’. Wake up to the help that’s out there, wake up to the pain some people are in, wake up and give your support,” said DIL Donegal Town committee member Sarah Gillespie.

“There are over 130 walks taking part in Ireland this year and the biggest excitement for us here in Donegal is the opening of the centre in Letterkenny,” Sarah said.

The new Pieta House centre will open in Letterkenny in the Grand Central building on May 15.

As well as raising awareness about the issue of suicide and self-harm, Darkness into Light raised almost €3.5 million for Pieta House in 2016. Pieta House provides a professional one-to-one therapeutic service for people who are experiencing suicidal ideation, people who have attempted suicide and people who are engaging in self-harm.
