Donegal ETB hosted its fourth annual awards ceremony in the Radisson Hotel, Letterkenny last Friday with 31 entries from its schools, centres and programmes competing in five categories for an award.

The fifteen judges had a tough job assessing this wonderful showcase of the creativity and innovation taking place in ETB schools, centres and programmes across the county which were a testament to the excellent teaching and learning taking place every day.

ETB 2017 Annual Awards Judges

Donegal ETB Chairperson, Gina Grant, found the students amazing, ‘the projects are so varied and so different and they are so community based and that, I just find, completely amazing. I’m totally blown away by the amount of projects here; I have to say I am so proud to be part of Donegal, I am so proud to be part of Donegal ETB and I’m so proud to be here today.’

Donegal ETB would like to congratulate all the entrants and prize winners, all of whom received a certificate of achievement from Donegal ETB Chief Executive Anne McHugh and the winners (listed below) received a plaque to mark their win.

In addition a special presentation was made to former Donegal ETB learner Joanne McKenna from Glenfinn who previously completed the Software Tester Application programme in the ETB’s Ballyraine Training Centre, Letterkenny and has been awarded a City and Guilds of London Institute Medal for Excellence which recognises not just exceptional work but going above and beyond what is expected to achieve those results.

Special Award to Joanne McKenna

Joanne is one of 87 people worldwide to receive this award this year, and only one of three in Ireland.

The awards also included singing from the first year choir of the Abbey Vocational School and Errigal College students, while Coláiste Chineál Eoghain student Art Parkinson also took some time at the awards to talk to Director of Schools, Dr Martin Gormley, about his acting success to date.
