Ireland’s first European Badminton Championship medals are back on Irish soil, following Chloe Magee’s return to Dublin Airport yesterday afternoon.

By Coilin Duffy

Donegal native Chloe, along with her brother Sam created history on Friday afternoon, picking up Bronze medals, following a medal playoff win over Polish duo Robert Mateusiak and Nadiezda Zieba in Denmark.
The duo lost their silver medal match by 21-14, 21-10 to Danish pair Joachim Fischer Nielsen and Christinna Pedersen.
Chloe says the European Championships have been kind in recent years. Sam has gone, meanwhile, for a well-deserved break in the sun.
“We have always played well at the European’s. Last year Sam and myself, we were in the quarter-finals. Although we missed out on the chance there, we played very well last year as well.
“I think people only take notice when you come home with medals. Thankfully for Sam and myself, and this is kind of a medal for the whole of Badminton Ireland; we can bring back a medal this time.”
