The Finn Valley is to get a new state-of-the-art, full-size all weather sports facility.
Stranorlar Councillor Patrick McGowan welcomed confirmation that more than €1 million has been allocated to the project which will be located at the existing PSOrts Master Plan area in Stranolar.
Cllr McGowan welcomed the news that has been a long-held ambition of his and others is nearing realisation.
“With so much emphasis now on encouraging people of every age to get active, this million euro outdoor facility will support all clubs in the County large and small as well as individuals.
“The weather in Donegal is challenging for all outdoor activities and this facility will help meet some of these challenges, minority’s sports groups and well as football, hurley, rugby and soccer clubs will I hope all benefit from this facility,” he said.
The project which will be managed by the council.
Cllr McGowan added “This will have a positive impact on people from different back grounds and different needs as it will encourage engagement and a better understanding of one another’s traditions as these shared facilities will expose people to sports and activities that they normally do not see.”
He thanked the Peace IV task force members and staff, LCDC for supporting this initiative which has now received approval in writing by SUPB.
The facility will be located in the Councils Sports Master plan area in Stranorlar which is designated in the County Development Plan for Sporting excellence which has been supported by Donegal Council over many years and will compliment the existing sports facilities.
