The Donegal Irish dancers who were crowned World Champions last month are to be accorded with a Civic Reception by Donegal County Council.

At the 2017 World Irish Dancing Championships at the Citywest Hotel, the Donegal youngsters, who are part of the McConomy-Bradley Dance School in Derry, went to the top of the world.

Glenswilly siblings Gavin and Niamh Shevlin were joined by Conor Rodgers (Convoy), David McNamee (Killea), Nadine Doherty and Ciaran Rodden (Buncrana), Niamh Peacock (Redcastle) and Tara Callaghan (Glenswilly).

The group are Senior Mixed Céilí World Champions for 2017.

The motion to award the Civic Reception was moved by at today’s Letterkenny Municipal District meeting by the Letterkenny MD Mayor Councillor James Pat McDaid.

“It is a huge achievement to be winning world medals,” he said. “It is only right that they receive a Civic Reception and are honoured by the Council.”

The motion was seconded by Councillor Gerry McMonagle.

A date for the Reception has yet to be confirmed.
