Lack of adequate parking turning people away from Letterkenny Town Park – claim

People are turning away from the Bernard McGinchey Town Park in Letterkenny due to a lack of sufficient car parking space, it has been claimed.

Councillor Michael McBride expressed concern at this month’s meeting of the Letterkennny Municipal District.

The Council is to explore the possibility of converting a grassed area, used as an overflow carpark at present, to a hardstanding area.

“It is one of the finest parks anywhere in the country – it’s layout, it’s setting, it’s a fabulous facility,” Councillor McBride said.

“I have noticed, especially now since the period of good weather came in, that cars are driving in and leaving again.

“That all tells us that the park is very popular, but there is definitely more parking needed.”

CCTV has been recently installed at the Park and Councillor Ian McGarvey added: “It would be fantastic to see the facility expanded. It is inconvenient when people pull in off a busy road and they cannot get parking. It makes it very difficult for people.”
