Some rural roads so bad ‘postmen are refusing to use them’, Councillor says

Some roads in Donegal are in such a state of disrepair that postmen are now refusing to use them, it has been claimed.

Veteran Donegal County Councillor Ian McGarvey was speaking at a meeting of the Letterkenny Municipal District.

Ramelton-based Councillor McGarvey asked that materials be provided in the area for roads that are deemed ‘unfit to use’.

However, Councillor McGarvey was informed that there is no LIS programme in operation in the area at present.

“This motion was in respect of the public,” Councillor McGarvey said.

“The state of some of the rural roads in this area are just terrible. Postmen are even refusing to use some of the roads.”

Councillor Liam Blaney added: “No-one is listening to us. People can’t afford to repair roads themselves and the TII can’t connect people.”
