Antrim forward free to face Donegal after Saffrons enlist Brolly

Antrim forward Matt Fitzpatrick is free to play for Donegal after the Saffrons brought in the help of Joe Brolly.

In the early hours of this morning, former Derry All-Ireland winner and well-known barrister and GAA pundit Brolly took to Twitter to confirm that Fitzpatrick’s proposed 48-week ban had been quashed.

Fitzpatrick was handed a 48-week ban earlier this week.

The Central Hearings Committee (CHC) deemed that Fitzpatrick had been in breach of rule 7.33 (aa) (4) of the Official Guide, which deals with members who have ‘given deliberately false evidence, whether orally or in writing, or to have deliberately misled any hearing’.

Initially, Fitzpatrick had been given a one-match ban by the Central Competitions Controls Committee arising out of his alleged part in an incident in a game against Armagh in March and, subsequently, was slapped with rather more serious charges by the CHC.

However, after enlisting the help of Brolly, the Antrim attacker is now cleared to play in Sunday’s Ulster SFC quarter-final against Donegal in Ballybofey.
