Rosses Community School opened its doors this morning to a wide variety of businesses, entrepreneurs and professionals from a variety of careers for the school’s careers day.

This annual event is aimed at TY and 5th year students and hopes to provide a platform within the school for students to meet with colleges, training bodies, and local businesses on a variety of courses and apprenticeships.

Exhibitors from the higher education sector, industry, state organisations and the voluntary sector attended.

The event was attended by representatives from Universities, Institutes of technology, Donegal education training board, colleges of further education as well as state organisations Udaras and Teagasc. The Defence Forces and the Garda Siochana were also in attendance.

Other areas that were also covered included Science, IT, Agriculture, Law, Business, Engineering, Hair/Beauty, Design, Education, Photography, Food, Hospitality and Media – Donegal Daily was represented by Chris McNulty, Editor of our sister site, www.donegalsporthub.com

The event was introduced by the principal John Gorman in Q & A forum.

Representatives from various enterprises and colleges highlighted their career path and personal journeys in their path to success.

This was followed by the students attending one to one group sessions with various individuals and organisations to discuss their career options.

It was highlighted throughout the day that Donegal is very much ‘open for business’ and that there are good employment opportunities close to home for students when they finish school and further education.

One of the event organisers and school Guidance Counsellor Helena Cunningham said: ‘This is a unique opportunity for students in Dungloe and the surrounding areas to meet with successful employers and find out about employment opportunities available to them”.

The event was coordinated by Ms. Moya Curran of the Business department, the Guidance department and SNA Suzanne Gallagher.

There were talks on the day by health professionals from the key areas of medicine, physiotherapy, nursing, pharmacy and dentistry. These provided practical knowledge and experience about these key areas of employment.
