Johnny Dunleavy on the mark again as Cork continue superb form

Johnny Dunleavy was on the scoresheet again last night as Cork City moved their unbeaten run out to 16 games with a 4-1 thumping of Shamrock Rovers at Turners Cross.

Ballybofey man Dunleavy headed home a late goal as John Caulfield’s side continued their magnificent start to the season.

Dunleavy, who is the Cork City captain, also scored a late goal last month in the 2-1 win over Bray Wanderers.

Dunleavy missed a large chunk of last season through injury and missed the Rebels’ FAI Cup final win over Dundalk, but is back to full fitness again and last night bagged a second goal of the season as Cork maintained a 15-point lead on champions Dundalk at the summit.

A stunning Trevor Clarke goal put Rovers in front after 16 minutes, but Ryan Delaney headed in an equaliser.

After Rovers were reduced to ten men when David McAllister was sent off, Cork made the extra man count.

Gearoid Morrissey fired them in front before Delaney and Dunleavy headed home goals in the closing moments.
