Listen: Paul Hegarty says Finn Harps ‘worked their socks off’ in derby stalemate

Finn Harps assistant manager Paul Hegarty says the Donegal side deserved a point in last night’s derby at Sligo Rovers.

The scoreless draw keeps Harps out of the relegation zone as the League heads for its mid-season break.

In a game of few chances, Sligo had the better of the openings with Raffael Cretaro hitting the crossbar in the first half.

“We played well at times, but our final ball let us down,” Hegarty said.

“Coming down to get a point in Sligo is by no means a disaster.

“We had enough good positions to go and do better. To be fair, the shift they put in was excellent and they worked their socks off. They competed for the 90 minutes.”

Harps defeated both St Patrick’s Athletic and Limerick FC last week and last night’s draw – earned with just their second clean sheet of the season – means they’re unbeaten in three.

Hegarty said: “We had a bad spell, but we have got players back. We have quality in the side, but we were missing Danny Morrissey tonight and we’ll be down to about 13 or 14 senior players for that Shamrock Rovers game.”
