Ann-Marie McGlynn of Letterkenny AC overcame around 33,000 the participants to win the Vhi Women’s Mini-Marathon today in Dublin.
McGlynn, a native of Offaly, who previously competed for Lifford AC, came home in the 10k event an impressive time of 33 minutes and 55 seconds.
Runners, joggers and walkers competed in the fund-raising event that took in a route from Merrion Square to Baggot Street.
“It’s brilliant,” McGlynn said.
“You always come in here hoping to win. You aim for it but it’s never easy. Thankfully I did win it but you never come in thinking you’re going to win it.
“You prioritise. You make a plan and you stick to it. You just have to work around school runs and that. I train for 10 days in a row and then I have a rest day.
“Mostly I train twice a day, it could be two hours plus, it depends. I ran when I was a young kid and then I took seven years out when I was 25 and my boy got sick and I came back to it to clear the head and then I started running better than I ever have.”
In 2015, she won a bronze medal with Ireland at the European Cross-Country Championships.
