Food Safety closure order served on Donegal takeaway

A Donegal takeaway has been closed this month for breaches of food safety legislation.

The Tasty Bite on Main Street Manorcunningham was sanctioned under the FSAI Act, 1998. The Closure Order was served on May 18th.

The Tasty Bite was one of seven food premises sanctioned with Closure Orders in May. The Enforcement Orders were issued by environmental health officers in the Health Service Executive.

Closure orders are issued on businesses if Food Safety officers find there is or there is likely to be a grave and immediate danger to public health at/or in the food premises.

Closures Orders can refer to the immediate closure of all or part of the food premises, or all or some of its activities. The Orders may be lifted when the premises has improved to the satisfaction of the authorised officer.

Commenting on the Enforcement Orders served in May, Dr Pamela Byrne, Chief Executive, FSAI said that all food business operators in Ireland should fully understand that it is their legal responsibility to ensure they are maintaining the highest standard of food preparation and are not putting consumers’ lives at risk by careless practices.

“It is unfortunate this month to see a high number of Enforcement Orders. Food safety legislation sets standards which food businesses must adhere to and there can be no shortcuts when it comes to ensuring the protection of consumer health.

“It is of paramount importance that all food businesses must operate stringent food safety practices in order to ensure the food they are producing and selling to their customers is safe to eat.

“Non-compliance by food businesses will not be tolerated and all breaches of food safety legislation will be dealt with to the full extent of the law,” said Dr Byrne.
