Four Donegal athletes have been selected on the Irish team for the European Athletics Team Championships First League in the Finnish university town of Vaasa on June 23-25.

In the men’s team, Mark English of  Letterkenny AC and Dempsey McGuigan of Finn Valley AC  are on board while Ann-Marie McGlynn of Letterkenny AC and Sommer Lecky  from Finn Valley have been chosen.

The competition sees twelve nations looking to gain one of the three promotion spots to the European Team Championships Super League in 2019.

The Irish Athletics team will be managed by Finn Valley stalwart Patsy McGonagle.

English has returned from injury to turn in two fine displays on each of the last two weekends.

Last weekend, English came fourth in the Adidas Boost Games in Boston.

In his season opener, English ran 1:46.06 in the 800m.

And English went to Hengelo yesterday and recorded a 1:46.02.

His times were just outside the World Championship standard of 1:45.90.

Finn Valley AC man McGuigan was tenth in the hammer throw at the recent NCAA Championships when he reached out to 69.14 metres.

McGlynn won recent Women’s Mini Marathon while Lecky has been shattering records galore and is one of the brightest prospects to emerge.
