Picture special: Jason Quigley surprises St Baithin’s NS, St Johnston for prize giving

The pupils at St Baithin’s National School in St Johnston got a surprise this morning as champion boxer Jason Quigley popped in for their end-of-year prize giving.

Quigley, still recovering from the hand injury he sustained during his fight with Glen Tapia in March, presented the prizes for both academic and sporting achievement.

Quigley’s win over Tapia saw him win his first professional title and he had the NABF middleweight belt with him.

Quigley told the children: “Have a goal and a vision of what you want to be when you grow up – and don’t let anyone tell you that it’s stupid or that you can’t do it. You can be whatever you want to be.”

The Ballybofey man added: “Your teachers are your friends and they’re here to help you. If you’re ever feeling sad or feeling down, talk to them, talk to your parents or talk to your friends – there is no problem that is too big.”
