All hands on deck as ‘The Shack’ opens for Rally Weekend

One clever Donegal entrepreneur has opened “The Shack” made out of an old shipping container in Letterkenny to coincide with the 2017 Joule Donegal International Rally.

An innovative bar manager is set to open Ireland’s first beer garden today – in a shipping container.

Jimmy Kennedy, veteran publican who runs The Brewery Bar in Letterkenny, has just come up with a very unique beer garden and bar to compliment his popular pub. It is receiving its finishing touches and it will be up and running from today, Friday 16th of June, just in time for the Joule Donegal International Rally.

Jimmy came up with the idea after a recent trip to New York where he ran the very successful Jimmy K’s Bar in Yonkers for over 20 years. A very experienced publican, Jimmy knew he needed to extend the existing pub footprint to meet increased footfall and to cater for the growing beer garden population – and he knew he wanted something new and different – something cool.

“Donegal has been named the Coolest Place to visit in the world this year and there has been a big increase in the number of visitors to the county,” said Jimmy.

“The Donegal rally kicks off this weekend and we had been looking at extending the premises and opening a beer garden, especially after the recent spell of good weather.

“The rally brings thousands of Domestic and International visitors to Donegal each year and this year won’t be any different which is why we’ve lined up great drink offers and a fantastic weekend of live music with the voice of Ireland contestant Johnny Kohlmeyer taking to the stage tonight”.

Management of the Brewery Bar & Restaurant would like to thank Sweeney Containers & Cabins for helping to fit out and deliver “The Shack” in lightning speed and with the utmost efficiency. Also, Gerard McGrenra and John Bradley of McGrenra construction, Kevin Harley of Precision Engineering and Barry Orr Painting. Jimmy was extremely complimentary of all the local support received and suggested “without their help we wouldn’t have “The shack” in place for the rally weekend and the great weather expected to go with it”.

To celebrate the launch of ‘The Shack’, The Brewery Bar is giving you the chance to WIN. a three-course meal for two along with a complimentary glass of wine or a cocktail on a Friday of your choosing. Simply Click below for your chance to WIN.

The Joule Donegal International Rally has a reputation for being one of the country’s most challenging rallies which begins and concludes in Letterkenny, Co.Donegal on Sunday 19th June.

The rally will take place throughout the County – Stages including locations such as Brennagh, Cark Mountain, Letterleague, Garrygort, Knockalla, Grovehall, Gartan, An Gleann, Atlantic Drive, Fanad Head.

Management and Staff would like to wish both fans and participants a safe and enjoyable weekend.
