Busy day for Letterkenny firemen with four call outs

The Letterkenny Fire Department had a busy day today with four call-outs to small fires around Letterkenny.

The weather was said to be a contributing factor in the break-out of the fires.

In mid-afternoon, thick smoke engulfed the Letterkenny skyline as the result of a blaze at waste ground behind Aldi on the Ramelton row. Grass and hedgerow caught fire, but the flames were brought under control.

Early this evening, the fire crew attended the scene of a small gorse fire in the Leck area of the town.

“The weather is so dry and warm that it doesn’t take much for these fires to start,” a spokesman said.

“The public have to be so careful and vigilant because it doesn’t take long for them to grow or spread at all.”
