Fire crews at scene of Letterkenny gorse fire

Fire crews are attending to a gorse fire that has sent thick smoke billowing onto the Letterkenny sky.

The blaze broke out in waste ground between Aldi and the Bus Station, adjacent to the Oasis Bar.

Fire tenders brought the fire, which caught bushes and trees, under control, but the smoke was visible for miles.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this point, though it is thought to have been lit accidentally.

“It started in a piece of grass or gorse. It looks like it was an accidental thing and it is so dry at the minute it wouldn’t take much to do that,” a spokesman said.
