Donegal Women’s League: Bonagee defeat table-toppers on night of lively action

Bonagee United took a superb win over table-topping Illistrin on Monday night as Hannah Hopkins and Grace Murphy (2) netted in a fine 3-1 win for Natalie McFadden’s team. Lagan, Mulroy S, Mulroy M and Raphoe Town also claimed wins.

Table toppers Illistrin came to Goose Green to play a Bonagee outfit who were a very determined team from the off.

In a tense first half there very few chances, Grace Murphy coming close for the home side with a ball over the top from Eva Harvey.

illistrin also had a good strike from Aobha Harrigan who’s shot went over the bar and it was 0-0 at half-time.

Both teams came out in the second half and were both pushing for the goal. An Illistrin kick out was met by Amy Callaghan who played though Hannah Hopkins in the 40th minute and she ran at the Illistrin defence and shot low and hard past Aoibeann Randles in the Illistrin goal.

Illistrin were trying hard for an equaliser and had some good play with there two central midfielders only for their shot from Erika Gallagher to go over the bar.

Grace Murphy got on the end of a loose ball in the midfield area in the 50th min and beat the Illistrin defence for pace. She took her goal nicely and finished into the corner.

Illistrin were starting to control the play and Bonagee were starting to tire.

Aobha harrigan gathered a scrappy ball from a corner at the edge of the square and finished cooly into the corner of the Bonagee net.

Aleysia Alcorn had some great kick outs on the night and made some fine saves. Bonagee got their when Hopkins took the ball down the right side and squared it to Murphy who slotted it past Randles.

A wonderful performance from the Bonagee girls all over the pitch. Best for Illistrin Erika Gallagher, Aobha Harrigan and Claire Gallagher. Best for Bonagee Grace Murphy, Eva Harvey Hannah Hopkins and Chloe Creevy.

 

Finn Valley 1 Lagan Harps 6

Lagan U12 girls returned to winning ways with a 6-1 victory over Finn Valley. Two goals each from Niamh Sweeney and Erin Doherty and a single goal from Kelsey Coll saw Lagan go in at half time five to the good.

Subs in the second half by both team saw a more even contest, with Abigail Temple Asokuh scoring after a free kick by Ciara Lawne for Finn Valley.

Aoife Sweeney converted her hat-trick after chasing a back pass, which she calmly slotted in past the young Valley keeper.

 

Kilmacrennan Celtic 0 Mulroy Academy (S) 2

An excellent game here on a fine summers evening in Kilmacrennan.

Mulroy started the stronger with Jessica Coll dominant in midfield.

The Kilmac defence was under pressure but held firm with Kyra McGrenaghan the rock in defence. Mulroy took the lead when a leah mc laughlin shot was deflected past the Kilmacrennan keeper. Ciara Shiels then went close for Kilmacrennan but couldn’t beat Megan McLaughlin in the Mulroy net.

With further chances to both teams Mulroy extended there lead with a lovely goal from Olivia Friel.

The second half had chances for both teams but both Megan McLaughlin for Mulroy and Eilish Russell in nets for kilmacrennan refused to be beat.

Great performances from Tara McGettigan and Kyra McGrenaghan for Kilmacrennan and for Mulroy Jessica Coll and Eva Blaney were excellent

 

Mulroy M v Gweedore Celtic

Mulroy M secured another three points on Monday evening against Gweedore Celtic.

It was the visiting team who scored first with a fine goal from Maeve Boyle. Most of the play was in the Gweedore goal mouth, but Mary Kate McGinley was excellent for this period to deny Mulroy M.

Eventually Clodagh Heron got the equaliser and by half time, Mulroy M led comfortably. The second half saw Gweedore make a few changes but this wasn’t enough as Mulroy M showed great displays of passing with goals from Clodagh, Emma Hunter, Chloe and Iseult.

Great team effort from Mulroy M and best for Gweedore were Sarah Kate McGee and Bridin Hynes.

 

Swilly Rovers 0 Raphoe Town 3

Shania McMonagle bagged a brace and Rocha McCullagh netted the other as Raphoe Town took an impressive away win at Swilly on Monday night.
