The Donegal Mountain Rescue Team successfully saved a group of hikers who became stranded on Muckish Mountain yesterday evening.

The rescuers rushed to the groups’ aid after 6pm yesterday evening after receiving reports that they had gone missing.

The low cloud cover presented a challenging mission for the team as they sought to locate the hikers. The fast-acting party made contact with the walkers and moved to their aid.

Within the hour, the rescue team, with the help of a search dog, had successfully located and escorted hikers off the mountain.

“All team members and walkers safely off hill,” and update said. “Low cloud and bad ground made for a challenging extraction.”

A statement from Donegal Mountain Rescue said it was a “great outcome and thank you to all Volunteers involved in this call.”

The team had a debrief and packed up for the evening after a successful mission.

The Donegal Mountain Rescue team is comprised completely of volunteers who are on 24 hour call, 365 days of the year.
