Couple discover hidden ethereal waterfall in South Donegal

Sarah Byrne and her other half Robert were astounded when they came across this stunning hidden waterfall nestled between the rocks on the Slieve League peninsula.

Photographer Sarah from Kilcar explains that she heard of the location from another local photographer, and then made it her mission to find it.

Sarah says; “I was shown a photo from a photographer friend who asked me if I knew where it was, and he was told it was located on the Slieve League Peninsula.”

Sarah says that local photographers keep the location of the waterfall a closely guarded secret in order to preserve it.

“I had to find it when he told me about it, I had asked other photographers who had been but they didn’t want to reveal the location so me and Robert decided to ask some locals, and with their help we found it ourselves.”

It was third time lucky for Sarah as the tide must be at a certain level to access the cavern.

“We walked down to the area three times and found it on the third time because it depends on the tides; but it probably took us about a month to actually find the waterfall.”

Once they found the waterfall that they had spent a month looking for, Sarah says it was quite a sentimental moment when they first set eyes on it.

“When we got there, there was such a peaceful atmosphere, knowing that there was no one else there at the time was quite special. Although it’s quite close to the main road it was as if there was nobody around for miles.”

When her partner Robert is not busy running his business Clady Media, they go exploring Donegal’s rugged coastline together.

Always searching for new locations to discover, their favourites include the Murder Hole beach on the Rosguill Peninsula and Crohy Sea Arch on Crohy Head.
