Raphoe Family Resource Centre: Annual 5k to take place on 4th July

Raphoe 5k
On Tuesday 4th July at 7.30pm the Family Resource Centre will hold its 7th Annual 5k Road Race/Fun Run/Walk in association with Lifford Athletic Club. The 5k, which is part of the Grand Prix Series costs €8 per adult and €20 per family (2 adults & 2 children) to enter. Registration from 6.00pm in the Volt House or you can pre-register by e-mail at raphoe5k@hotmail.co.uk.

Prizes and refreshments afterwards in the Volt House Hall. Following on from the success of last year’s children race we will be hosting a 1k road race for under 12’s with an entry fee of €3. Again, there will be prizes and refreshments afterwards in Volt House Hall. All proceeds will be re-invested into supporting the work of the Family Resource Centre.

Annual John Hegarty Memorial Cup Art Competition
Thank you to all who joined us in the presentation of the Annual John Hegarty Memorial Cup Art Competition.

Many thanks to Raphoe Central N.S and St Eunan’s N.S for their participation in the competition and to Raphoe Art group who judged all the beautiful pictures and for hosting the event. Not forgetting all the delicious home-making served afterwards.

Well done to everyone who submitted Art work.

The competition winners were as follows:

1 st Prize Caitlin Gallagher (St Eunan’s N.S)
2 nd Prize Kasey Blackburn (Raphoe Central N.S)
3 rd Prize Emma Hamilton (St Eunan’s N.S)

Highly Commended was awarded to Emma Mc Kean (Raphoe Central N.S) and Abbie Mc Kean (Raphoe Central N.S)

Raphoe Something Special Group
The annual BBQ held at Maggie’s Tavern on the 7 th July 2017 will be in aid of the Something Special Group. This group supports children with disabilities, any funding raised assist with the groups Summer programme and out of school activities planned throughout the year. If you would like to purchase a ticket, they are available in Raphoe Family Resource Centre.

50-50 Bonus Ball
Again, there was no winner of the Bonus Ball this week, the jackpot will roll over to next week!! To enter the next Bonus Ball Draw please call into the Family Resource Centre in The Volt House before Saturday of each week. Good luck!

Donegal YMCA Step 2017 – 18 Programme Recruitment
YMCA’s Support, Training and Enterprise Programme (STEP) in Letterkenny is currently recruiting for their September 2017 to June 2018 programme. The 47 week full-time programme offers a full FETAC/QQI Level 4 major award in Employment Skills. There are components in Communications, Work Experience, Career Planning, Customer Service, Information Technology, Computer Applications, Functional Maths, Understanding Inter-culturalism and Team Working.

There are also two work placement components totalling 6 weeks within the course. The aim of the programme is to support participants in gaining employment or accessing further education. The programme is primarily aimed at early school leavers who are unemployed and between the ages of 17-25 years, having left school at least 6 months previously.

Participants receive the equivalent of SOLAS training allowances and also receive a transport & meal allowance.  The course is funded by the Department of Education and Skills and the European Social Fund. Convoy Ulster Scots Summer Scheme
The Summer scheme for 2017 will take place on 31st July – 4 th August 2017 in Convoy Orange Hall for ages 5 – 12 (must be at school) from 10am – 3pm. Cost €30. If interested contact 00447851410686 or 0872620589

Raphoe Friday Club
The Friday Club meets every Friday morning in the Volt House Hall from 10.30am-12.30. We would like more in our community to come along and be a part of the Group.

There will be events organised over the summer so come along and join in the craic!

Refreshments are also provided. Transport is available on Friday mornings and if you require this please phone 0749145462 and arrange.

Raphoe Tidy Towns News
Re-cycling of cans and glass in Raphoe.

The Tidy Towns wish to inform members of the public that the glass and can recycling facilities which are located at Raphoe Hardware, Lifford Road, Raphoe must be kept tidy at all times. Please do not leave rubbish or broken glass at the recycling bins. Please respect this community facility. Opening Hours: Monday – Saturday 8.30am – 5.30pm.

A sincere thank you to the all concerned in the Tidy Towns Committee, the Tidy Towns Community Employment Project, the rural scheme staff member & the Tidy Towns volunteers for all their hard work at present. The town is looking well despite the recent inclement weather. Thanks also to all the various resident’s associations, businesses, churches and schools and the general public for all their support for the good of our town. Judging in the National Tidy Towns is ongoing at present and continues usually until mid-August every year.
