Management at Harry’s Restaurant in Bridgend have announced they have closed after 26 years in business.

The well-known roadside restaurant had its last service on Sunday 25th June.

Harry’s is owned by Donegal man Donal Doherty, a former accountant, who inherited the restaurant from his father and expanded the business as a family-run enterprise.

In a statement, Donal said: “We’d like to thank our loyal customers without you we wouldn’t be the success we are today.”

Donal invited all customers from Harry’s Bridgend to join them in their two Derry locations: “So remember to come see us in the Craft Village instead! And over summer visit our Harry’s Shack on Portstewart beach. Same great people & great food.”

Donal developed the business in 2015 to establish Harry’s Shack on Portstewart Beach in Co. Derry, which remains open. The food outlet appeared on the list of Sunday Times Top 100 Restaurants in the UK and was named Ireland’s Restaurant of the Year 2014 by the influential John and Sally McKennas’ Guides.

Head chef at Harry’s, Derek Creagh, is renowned for using fresh fish from Greencastle in Co Donegal, with vegetables from the restaurant’s own farm.

Harry’s Derry

Earlier this year, Harry’s opened at a new location in the Craft Village in Derry City Centre. Harry’s Derry has become a fast favourite with high ratings from reviewers. The restaurant continues its focus on fresh local ingredients from the north-west.

Customers online have shared happy family memories of times in Harry’s of Bridgend as they wish the team the best for the future.
