Donegal Boxing Board President Peter O’Donnell has been appointed as the Irish team manager for the forthcoming EUBC European Schoolboy Championships in Romania.

The popular Raphoe ABC man was manager of the Irish Elite team for the European finals in 2015.

O’Donnell has also managed Irish underage teams for delegations abroad.

A phone call from the IABA President, Pat Ryan, informed O’Donnell of his selection for the Championships, which will be held in Valcea, Romania, from July 17-26 next.

“It is always a great honour to be selected by the IABA for a trip like this,” O’Donnell said.

“It is a privilege to be selected to manage the Irish team anywhere and I was delighted and honoured to get the call from Pat Ryan, the IABA President.”

O’Donnell is well-known for his regular travels to all corners of the globe in support of boxing and is a close confidant of Donegal professional middleweight Jason Quigley, among others.

In 2015, O’Donnell managed an Irish team that returned three medals from the European Senior Elite Championships in Bulgaria. Michael Conlan (gold), Joe Ward (gold) and Dean Walsh (bronze) won the nuggets – O’Donnell is pictured with them below on their return to Dublin Airport.
