Donegal boxers Labhaoise Clarke and Chloe McDaid have touched down in Sofia, Bulgaria ahead of the European Women’s Youth and Junior Championships, which get underway tomorrow.

Carndonagh lightweight Clarke and Illies Golden Gloves featherweight McDaid are competing in Bulgaria.

Clarke competes in the youth competition at 57kgs with McDaid in the junior ranks at 54kgs.

Clarke has won nine Irish titles and will now look to make a mark on the continent.

McDaid won her second Irish title recently when she defeat Zoe McGlone of St Paul’s in the Girl 4 53kgs final.

The 16-strong Irish squad trained at the Centre of Excellence in Abbotstown on Wednesday and had a technical session with head coach Zaur Antia. Ireland’s chief second said he was very impressed with the standard displayed by all the team.

The draw for the Championships will be held at 9am Monday morning. Preliminary round boxing commences on Monday afternoon.
