Frank McGlynn says Donegal will move on quickly from Saturday evening’s qualifier win over Longford.
It was a night that perhaps raised more questions than supplied answers but, with the Round 3A qualifier draw to come on Sunday, Donegal were just thankful to get over the line, even if they weren’t convincing in the 0-12 to 0-7 win.
“The aim was to get a victory and move on,” McGlynn said.
“It was by no means our best and we know that. Longford gave us a tough test in the first half. But for the sending off it might have been different. We pushed on after that. Luckily we got the result.
“They had a few scoreable frees they missed at crucial times. We were fortunate enough that that happened.”
McGlynn is one of the more experienced men in what is a youthful dressing room these days and has become used to preparing for Ulster finals.
Donegal contested the previous six Ulster finals, but a 1-21 to 1-12 loss to Tyrone last month ended that run.
McGlynn said: “When you build yourself up to get to an Ulster final, you’re always going to have that kind of hangover after a defeat. Especially after a defeat like we had. We just didn’t perform. That was there with a bit of nerves and we made mistakes that we wouldn’t normally make.
“The two-week break gave us time to get our heads around it.
“It’s something to relish now. We’ll look to build on it now.”
