Labhaoise Clarke made an agonising exit from the European Women’s Youth and Junior Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria yesterday evening.

The Carndonagh ABC woman – pictured above with her sister, Jessica – lost out to Belarus boxer Ulyana Yesipena  in the last 16 bout of the Youth 57kgs division.

Nine-time Irish champion Clarke was deemed to have lost the bout on all the judges scorecards, but Irish head Coach Jimmy Payne said: “Labhaoise boxed outstanding in all three rounds, getting tired in the third but all the coaches thought she won the fight.”

Tomorrow, it will be the turn of Illies Golden Gloves’ ‘Little Miss Dynamite’, Chloe McDaid.

In a Junior quarter-final at 54kgs, McDaid is up against Latvian Jekaterina Marchenko.
