Alternating between heatwaves and heavy rainfall, the weather has truly been a mixed bag in Donegal this summer. However, one sport that is in no way weather dependent is surfing! And with the Wild Atlantic Way on your doorstep, there’s no excuse not to give it a go.
A Surf Lesson Price Index compiled by surfholidays.com reveals that Ireland is the cheapest place in Europe to get surf lessons.
Ireland is in 9th place across the world with surf lessons costing on average €32 per lesson eclipsing some of the most popular surf countries including Australia, Portugal, Spain, Indonesia and the United States.
Surf Holidays CEO Nicky Kelly said “Ireland is one of the best places to learn how to surf and it’s great to see it is also one of the least expensive.
“There are beaches in Donegal, Mayo, Sligo, Clare, Cork, Kerry & Waterford that are great to learn on.
“People are choosing to surf in Ireland, and it is catching up on the more traditional surf destinations such as Portugal and France”
The index analysed the average cost of a beginner’s surf lesson across 850 surf schools around the world. To determine Ireland’s average surf lesson cost, they studied 42 Irish surf schools regulated by the Irish Surfing Federation. The majority of Ireland’s surf beaches can be found along the Wild Atlantic Way.
Ecuador has the lowest priced surf lesson at €19 with Norway the most expensive at an eye-watering €112 per lesson.
