One of the country’s best-known and liked members of Donegal Fire Service has retired.

Kevin Muldoon hung up his helmet yesterday after serving Donegal Fire Service in Donegal Town for 38 years.

Kevin, who was Station Officer in Donegal Town, hung up his Helmet for the very last time.

He joined the fire service in 1979 and went on to become one of the best BA Instructors and Driving Instructors in the country.

Kevin has trained every firefighter within the Fire Service in Donegal and up until mid-June was still instructing with his fellow Instructors in Co Carlow for the Donegal Fire Service.

Throughout his long and distinguished career, Kevin has experienced some tough and sad situations and was present as a young firefighter at one of Donegal’s worst fires in the Central Hotel in Bundoran.

He followed in the footsteps of his father Séamus into the Fire Service in Donegal Town and became Station Officer not long after.

His son Seamie is now following in his footsteps in Donegal Town Fire Service.

Throughout his long career Kevin was fair and straight with everyone that he worked with and as one colleague remarked “You Got what you saw with Muldoon.”

A spokesman for the fire service said “Everyone in Donegal is thankful for the years of service which Kevin has given to his county and as was said today earlier on social media “You were a colleague one time, a boss sometimes and a friend all times.”

Happy Retirement Kevin and enjoy your free time with wife Mary and grandson Kevin with your new found loves – GAA and soccer.
