With this years’ MacGill Summer School only days away, Donegal County Council’s Webcasting team are busy putting in place the final touches to have proceedings webcasted live from Glenties for the duration of this years’ event.
Webcasts will be available from www.donegalcoco.ie.
“We have been webcasting live from the MacGill Summer School for a number of years now and this service has proved to be very popular with the general public as well as with journalists, political commentators, politicians, government officials and indeed anyone with an interest in public life in Ireland” says Brian Boyle Head of Information Services with Donegal County Council.
“And this year the EU Commission will be taking our feed and webcasting live via their own platforms and this means that proceedings from Glenties will be reaching a European wide audience” adds Brian Boyle.
For one week in July every year the beautiful town of Glenties nestling in the hills of Donegal becomes the centre of political life in Ireland when the MacGill Summer School opens its doors and becomes the focal point for political, economic and social debates, lectures and reflections.
Over the last 36 years, the MacGill Summer School has developed into the foremost political and socio-economic discussion forum in Ireland and this year H.E. Mr Stéphane Crouzat, Ambassador Designate of France to Ireland will officially open the school on Sunday 16 July.
This will be followed by the Annual John Hume Lecture which will be delivered by Simon Coveney TD, Minister for Foreign Affairs & Trade. It is no surprise that this year’s proceedings will mainly focus on Brexit and it’s implications for Ireland, Britain and the EU as well as the ongoing security threats facing Europe.
Speakers and contributors include Pat Cox, former President of the European Parliament, Alan Dukes, Economist and former Fine Gael Leader, Pat Leahy Political Editor of the Irish Times, Paschal Donohoe TD and Minister for Finance & Public Expenditure & Reform and Seamus Neely Chief Executive Donegal County Council.
Donegal County Council has been working closely with the MacGill Summer School committee since 2009 to record and broadcast the proceedings live as internet webcasts. A searchable video archive of all speakers since 2009 is now available on www.donegalcoco.ie.
