John Moran has guaranteed himself at least a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Youth Games in the Bahamas.

The Illies Golden Gloves light-flyweight overcame Seanoa Hall from Samoa in his opening bout in the 49kgs category this evening.

Moran was comfortable and emphatic in victory to move onto the podium.

The 18-year-old took a unanimous decision following a domineering display in the ring, during which he showcased his vast experience in comparison to the Samoan.

Moran goes up a notch in the semi-final on Saturday as he will take on James Probert from Wales.

Probert is a World and European Junior bronze medalist who also has a European Schoolboys bronze under his belt.
