Don your favourite jersey for Micky’s Mile this Sunday

A 5km walk/run is being hosted this Sunday in Downings in aid of Micky Buchanan.

Participants are encouraged to wear their favourite jerseys to the event (and considering the forecast, a raincoat may also be advisable!)

Micky was diagnosed with a brain tumour called Glioblastoma a little over a year ago in April 2016.

Throughout the past year, Micky has gone through intense surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy. Half of the tumour was removed.

A spokesperson for the event says that his treatment is ongoing, with many journeys to and from Dublin along with extended overnight stays.

“Micky can’t work, drive or socialise, and has also been affected financially. His life has been turned upside down.

“Hopefully Micky and his partner Maggie can lead a normal life again one day.”

Registration begins at 1pm, with the event kicking off at 2pm at the Beach Hotel where participants will follow a 5k route past Downings School and Coast Guard cottages to finish at the hotel.

Refreshments will be provided along with a raffle afterwards.

The entry fee is just €10 for an adult and €5 for a child.

For more, see their Facebook page.
