Jonny McGinty was beaming with pride last night as his Kildrum Tigers saw off Norwich City in the Under-19 Foyle Cup final at Ardmore.

Shane Brennan’s 11th minute free-kick secured a famous win for the Tigers, who were late entrants into the competition.

A Norwich panel including 15 contracted players pressed hard, but couldn’t find a way past the  resilient Tigers.

“It was heroic stuff,” McGinty said.

“We defended as if our lives depended on it. I’m over the moon. A wee club like Kildrum Tigers taking on and beating the might of Norwich City. It’s unbelievable stuff.

“We knew there was something special in this group. We’ve been building the momentum and I don’t think anyone watching that game could deny us. Norwich had a lot of the play, but we held on.”
