The loving son of one of the three Donegal women killed in last Friday’s horrific accident in Co Louth has said a tearful farewell to the tragic friends.

Tragic Caoimhín O’Neill survived the horrific crash which claimed the lives of his mum Mairead, grandmother Margaret McGonigle and his mum’s best friend Racheal Battles.

The women, who were killed as they returned home from a dream holiday in Turkey, will be buried today in Bruckless.

Caoimhín also lost in dad in recent years and has now lost his mum and his beloved grandmother.

The 13-year-old, who only made his confirmation, took to Facebook to say a final farewell to his loving mum.

He wrote “R.I.P Mammy Nanmy and Racheal fly high god bless GBNF (gone but never forgotten).”

Dozens of people replied to Caoimhín’s post as he prepared to say a heartbreaking farewell to his mum and grandmother.

A cousin of Caoimhín’s, Katie Goddard wrote “Stay strong cuz, you’ll get through this, how’s everyone doing?xx.”

And brave Caoimhín replied “Grand sticking with it Katie.”

Another woman, Lorna Lundy, wrote “Caoimhin, our love and prayers are with you all xx.”

On his own Facebook page, Caoimhín has proudly displayed a picture of his mum, stepdad Pauric and himself on their wedding day.

The village of Bruckless, on the outskirts of Killybegs, will come to a standstill on Monday when the three friends are laid to rest.

Margaret McGonigle and Mairead Mundy’s remains will go to the Church of Saint Joseph and Saint Conal in Bruckless today (Mon) for funeral mass at 11am, with the burial taking place in the adjoining cemetery.

Racheal Cassidy Battles’ remains will go to the Church of Saint Joseph and Saint Conal in Bruckless for 2:30pm funeral mass today (Mon) with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

There will be a shuttle bus service to the wake houses from Bruckless National School.
