Listen: Danny O’Donnell on Milford’s Division 1 survival battle

Milford manager Danny O’Donnell has been content to see his side compete in Division 1 of the All-County League – and the Moyle View men are closing in on sealing survival.

Milford staved off a strong Four Masters comeback on Sunday to win 3-9 to 0-16 against one of their relegation rivals.

Milford, playing in the top flight for the first time in the club’s history, have given themselves a fine chance of staying up now.

“The job is never done,” O’Donnell insisted.

“We came in this year and our intention was we weren’t coming in to make up numbers. We felt that we were capable and we’ve taken results off teams that we need to. We have an opportunity now to stay in Division 1.”

Tony McNamee, David Curley and Kane Barrett netted on Sunday, but Milford had to dig deep. After being ten up, Four Masters eroded the deficit and Milford were clinging on by the conclusion.

O’Donnell said: “We knew, regardless of how the game was unfolding, that it was going to go to the wire.

“We felt that we could see it out and we wanted to push on when we went nine or ten up. We saw it out and in Division 1, it’s about winning games.”
