A minor earthquake has rocked Co Donegal.

The quake, which measured 1.5 on the Richter Scale, was felt by hundreds of residents around the Milford and Kilmacrennan areas around 6.45am.

It is understood the centre of the quake occurred off the Fanad Peninsula but could be felt for several miles inland.

There have been no reports of anybody being injured or any damage being caused to buildings.

Tom Blake, the director of the Irish National Seismic Network, has appealed to people who experienced the earthquake to get in touch.

“There was a minor tremor which measured 1.5 on the Richter Sacen – that’s a fairly minor tremor but was felt nonetheless.

“It was felt by people and would have been felt by animals. Our systems pick up very minute tremors.

“We are very keen to hear from people and if people could share their experiences with us then we would ask them to get it touch,” he said.
