One of Letterkenny’s best known businessmen, Joe Gallagher, will be laid to rest this morning.

Mr Gallagher, who operated Gallagher’s Self Service Store, on Letterkenny’s Main Street, died earlier this week.

Gallagher’s Self Service Store operated for nearly 50 years until its closure in 2013.

Mr Gallagher, a native of Keelogs in Churchill, is a former President of the St Eunan’s GAA club.

Members of the St Eunan’s club formed a guard of honour at St Eunan’s Cathedral in Letterkenny before Funeral Mass at 10am this morning.

St Eunan’s members will form a guard of honour at O’Donnell Park as Mr Gallagher’s remains are taken to Templedouglas for burial.

A statement from the St Eunan’s club said: “Joe was an outstanding member of our club for most of his 89 years. He was also a fixture on the Main St. for over 50 years and had many friends through his shop in the town and his affiliation with St. Eunan’s.”
