An allocation of almost €7,200 has been made for one the leading arts groups in the Finn Valley.

The Balor based Butt Drama Circle in Ballybofey has been awarded the funding under the Arts & Culture Capital Scheme.

Fine Gael Councillor Martin Harley and local TD Joe McHugh have welcomed the funding.

The announcement brings to €27,000 the funding allocated to Donegal in the past few days, with €20,000 awarded to the Amharclann in Gaoth Dobhair on Wednesday through the same funding stream.

“I want to thank the Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Heather Humphreys, for this funding,” said Cllr Harley.

“The funding is being made available under Stream 3 of the Arts and Culture Capital Scheme. Earlier this year, Minister Humphreys announced funding of over €9 million under Stream 1 and 2 of the Scheme.

“While the first two rounds of funding were aimed at larger organisations, these grants are for smaller community based groups, many of whom are doing great work here in Donegal in the arts and culture sphere.

“I am very pleased that Minister Humphreys and Minister McHugh have recognised the fantastic work of the award-winning Butt Drama Circle with an award of €7,186.”.

Minister Joe McHugh said that Fine Gael is building a republic of opportunity where everyone can have a fair chance to reach their full potential.

The Donegal TD added: “An Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar, has repeatedly emphasised the importance of culture and creativity in our lives.

“The Creative Ireland programme which is the legacy of the Ireland 2016 Commemorative Year seeks to put art, culture and creativity at the centre of public policy and government.

“I want to wish the Butt Drama Circle and everyone at the Amharclann continued success on their enrichment of all through the arts.”
