Young legal eagles seek help to fly to NYC and defend Ireland’s honour

A team of Carndonagh Community School pupils have made a huge achievement by qualifying to represent Ireland at the World Mock Trial Championships in New York – but getting there is the first part of the battle.

A major fund raising effort is underway to fund their trip to the USA in November and help them achieve their dreams by going all the way in the competition.

Teacher John Mc Guinness said the CCS team overcame overwhelming odds to qualify to represent Ireland in the World Mock Trial Championships in New York.

The cost of the team travelling to New York is €38 000 and they are seeking to raise the money through a GoFundMe account to achieve this once in a life time experience.

The GoFundMe appeal tells the team’s remarkable success story: “It was both an incredible achievement and an honour for a team of students from a disadvantaged area to beat many of the favourites who had a track record in the competition.

“These students started with a dream and put in the many hard hours in preparation for the competition, in doing so, they have realised the first part of that dream, namely winning the right to represent their country. The second part is to represent Ireland in New York on the world stage.

“The cost of sending the team to New York to compete is €38 000. Unfortunately there is no official funding available that we can access to allow these students compete on the world stage.

“If we reach this target with your help you will be enabling a team of students from a disadvantaged area to engage in a once in a life time experience.

“This is a competition that helps students to think critically, communicate clearly and collaborate effectively. This competition takes learning outside the classroom and builds confidence, creates better advocates while equipping students with the skills that will set them apart from their peers and enable them to succeed in any future career path.

“Your generosity will provide the vehicle that encourages intellectual growth and cultural enrichment among this cohort. Please help our students realise their dream and develop the skills to become effective, confident, leaders of the future. Your generosity will help educate the next generation and by following your example encourage a spirit of philanthropy in them.

“For some of our students this is their first opportunity to experience another country and another culture. The students involved in the programme are Daniel Mc Cormick, Ellen Simmons, Adam Mullins, Brigid Doherty, Aidan Doherty, Aisling McCarron. Nathan Crumlish, Shaun Hirrell, Danielle Houghton, Kate Hunter, Ciara McGonagle, Rori Doherty, Ellen Keys, Chantelle McLaughlin, Evan McLaughlin, Ben Nelson, Aimee Donaghy, Jordan Doherty.

“This team has done its school proud, its community proud with your help you can afford them the opportunity to do the nation proud. Competition in New York will not be possible without your generous support please donate in support of our Mock Trial team.”
