Quigley’s back in cast to speed healing as Donegal puncher targets the top

Jason Quigley’s right hand is back in a cast as the Ballybofey middleweight sets about getting back into the ring before the end of 2017.

Quigley suffered what Los Angeles medics described as a ‘one in ten million injury’ in March on his way to defeating Glen Tapia to lift the NABF middleweight title in Indio.

Although Quigley returned to training last week at The Rock Gym in Carson, the unbeaten Irish middleweight (13-0) says it will take ‘a little longer than expected’ to heal properly.

Quigley had to have corrective surgery after breaking the hand and shredding a major tendon.

“I came back to the States to meet with my hand surgeon to discuss how the recovery was going,” Quigley said on Instagram.

“The good news is that the ruptured tendon – the 1 in 10 million injury – is healing perfectly!

“But the Doctor said due to the severity of the break the bone is taken a little longer than expected to heal which means I’m back into the cast for a couple of weeks to help speed that process along.

“Obviously now I’ll not be back in the ring as soon as I would of hoped, but I’m still working and grinding hard, keeping my eye on my goals and as soon as I have the all clear I’ll be back in action, doing what I love doing, working my way to the top.”

Quigley was at the World Boxing Council HQ yesterday with his publicist Rachel Charles of Sheer Sports Management and took part in a live Q&A on Facebook.

Update for everyone asking , thanks for all the support as always truly appreciate it
