The Malin GAA 5K Run or Walk will be hosted in fond memory of John McLaughlin (Rustard).

John was a passionate GAA man but running was another hobby that he loved to partake in, so in his memory the GAA club have decided to combine both.

A spokesperson for Malin GAA says: “John was one of our biggest volunteers, helping out across all areas within the Club, none more so than with our Underage Teams across all age levels, with many of our young members having great memories to cherish.

“With this in mind, any money raised will be used for the Children in the Club, across all our Underage Football Teams.”

Malin GAA is also encouraging as many people as possible to don their club colours, their black and amber that John was so proud of as well as all other club colours in Inishowen and further afield.

The 5K kicks off on Saturday the 2nd of September at 4pm, and everyone is welcome to this community event. The entry fee is just €10 for adults, €5 for kids, and €20 for families.

Registration will begin at 3pm at the GAA Clubhouse, with tea and refreshments provided after the race.

Malin GAA would also like to give a shout-out to all community groups, businesses, families or club teams who would like to participate as a team. Teams of 4-6 can be entered at €10 per runner, with times for first four home counted!

“There’s nothing like a bit of healthy competition and there will be a special prize for the first team home, as well as the honour of being crowned Malin GAA Running Champions 2017.

“We know that many people in the GAA Community across Inishowen and Donegal may have known or met John at some stage and have their own memories of him, so we would like to invite everyone along, even if it’s just for the cup of tea afterwards, everyone is welcome!”

Sponsor cards will also be available with committee members, family and friends as well as in local businesses for anyone who would like to support but may not be able to make the 5K on the day! You can also donate online by following this link:

Malin GAA would like to give a special thanks to E&I Engineering for sponsoring this event.
