Inishowen company E+I Engineering is planning to add around 100 new jobs over the next 18 months as it seeks to expand its manufacturing facility.
Founder and managing director Philip O’Doherty told the Sunday Independent that the Burnfoot company was also looking at potential acquisitions in the United States.
“We’re certainly looking at opportunities in the USA over the next year to 18 months – acquisitions either of technology or of companies,” he said.
“Depending on how large the cheque was, we could certainly do a medium-sized acquisition without any outside capital, but we’d have to look at outside capital if it was a larger acquisition.”
The new hiring programme will include roles for engineers, sales staff and production operatives, among others.
The proposals for physical expansion are being examined by the planning authorities, O’Doherty said.
PwC was engaged to act on the company’s behalf last year after an approach from a potential buyer, but O’Doherty says he has no interest in selling the business.
The company employs around 1,200 worldwide.
