Should Cork City’s goal have stood against Finn Harps last night?

There was plenty of debate last night about Garry Buckley’s winning goal for Cork City against Finn Harps – and tv pundits were torn on whether or not the goal should have stood.

When Ryan Delaney’s header in the 70th minute came off the post, Buckley got in ahead of Ciaran Gallagher, the Harps goalkeeper, to score the only goal of the game.

Harps contested that Gallagher had a hand on the ball when Buckley came in.

“What’s the goalkeeper complaining about? He hadn’t got it in his hands,” said RTÉ analyst and former Republic of Ireland manager, Brian Kerr, who was co-commentator.

However, on Soccer Republic, RTÉ’s highlights programme, Johnny McDonnell, the former St Patrick’s Athletic manager, felt that Gallagher was fouled. He said: “It looks like the reaction of the keeper that he’s been kicked in the arm. It looks like he’s kicked him in the arm. He has caught him in the arm.”

Have a look for yourself…
