Animals In Need Donegal have a busy weekend ahead with a variety of events being held around Co. Donegal.

The charity putting many exciting events in motion to raise funds for a new animal rescue van and to save the charity from closure.

The fundraisers kick off on Friday night, 25th August with a pub quiz being held in O’Shaughnessy’s Bar, Castle Street, Ramelton, starting at 9.30pm.

At the other end of the County, Owen Roe’s Bar in Ballyshannon will be holding a fun quiz on Friday 25th at 9.45pm.

On Saturday 26th August The Castle Grove Country House, Letterkenny will be hosting a Charity Dog Show from 2pm-5pm, all welcome, which will be a great day out for all the family.

Then on Tuesday August 29th, ArtCo on Pearse Road, Letterkenny will be holding a coffee morning with delicious home baking on offer from 11am to raise funds for AIN.

An Animals In Need (AIN) spokesperson said ‘Thank you so much to everyone who has organised fundraisers this week for AIN’s van appeal.  There’s plenty of entertaining events to look forward to this weekend, promising good craic whilst also raising money for Donegal’s most vulnerable animals.  Please come along and support a worthy cause.’

Animals In Need, who face closure unless a new van can be purchased, launched their appeal to raise €25,000 for the van last month.

The van will have to be registered with the Department of Agriculture for authorisation to transport live animals and be customised with travel cages, air-conditioning and lighting.

Animals In Need’s current van is on its last legs with over 200,000 miles on the clock.

It is constantly on the road rescuing dogs from all around the County and beyond, collecting dogs from the Letterkenny Pound, delivering dogs to various sanctuaries such as the Dogs Trust plus collecting unwanted dogs and pups from their owners.

AIN is the only Rescue in Donegal who saves dogs from the Letterkenny Pound on a weekly basis.

In the past year alone, AIN has rescued almost 1,000 animals, up from 720 animals during the previous year.

The AIN spokesperson continued ‘We have just passed the €13,500 mark towards our target for the van and we’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who’s donated so far, from all at AIN and from the thousands of animals we hope to rescue in the new van in the future.’

If you would like to contribute directly towards the van, AIN has set up a Go Fund Me campaign and donations can be made at www.gofundme.com/save-animals-in-need-from-closure.

Animals in Need C.L.G have been in operation since 2006 as a totally voluntary registered organisation C.H.Y No 17864/20067304 rescuing abandoned dogs and cats in County Donegal.
