Donegal firemen pay tribute to kind-hearted Bernie after house catastrophe

Firefighters across Donegal have paid a touching tribute to Bernie Kearney, the woman who lost her house in this week’s flooding catastrophe.

Bernie’s home in Urris was completely destroyed when a mudslide enveloped her home.

Bernie was lucky to escape with her life after jumping out of a bedroom window.

It has since emerged that kind-hearted Bernie recently looked after a number of firemen who attended gorse fires in her local area in recent weeks.

A statement issued by Donegal Firefighters on the Inishwoen Penninsula last night said “The Donegal Firefighters Association were very saddened to learn of what happened to the house of a wonderful lady who stayed up all night making food and made sure every single Firefighter was fed who was fighting the Gorse and Forest Fires a few months ago.

Bernie Kearney of Urris was lucky to escape from her home when it was engulfed by a mudslide.

The DFA would like, on behalf of all the Firefighters, to offer Bernie any support they can give her in this difficult time.”
