Take a bow – devastated Bernie’s neighbours help her clean up!

This is what a little bit of community spirit can do.

Bernie Kearney’s home in Urris was completely destroyed when a mudslide came down on top of it on Tuesday evening last.

Bernie managed to jump out of a bedroom window and escaped any injury.

But her home has been left completely ruined by the mudslide which came crashing into her kitchen and bedrooms.

Everyone in the local community knew how proud Bernie was of her home which she power-washed three times a year.

“You wouldn’t have found a weed on that street she was so proud of keeping it so clean,” said Bernie’s nephew Martin.

Now less than a week after her home was destroyed, Bernie’s neighbours have done their bit to make it a little easier every time she walks past it.

From shovels and spades to JCBs and dumper trucks, neighbours came together to offer her helping in cleaning up around her home.

Bernie is currently staying with relatives in the area before she decides where she will live in future.
