Listen: Martin McElhinney on a ‘messy’ win as St Michael’s get past Burt

Martin McElhinney bore the expression of a relieved man as St Michael’s shaded it against Burt to reach the Donegal SFC semi-finals.

Late points from Colm McFadden and Andrew Kelly gave St Michael’s a 0-13 to 1-8 win at O’Donnell Park in a thriller.

But Burt, in their first year back in the senior competition, gave them their full of it and might have came out on the right side of it.

“Burt probably deserved it, but we got over the line,” McElhinney reflected.

“It was messy, but at least we got the win.

“We thought we’d have pulled away. A couple of misplaced balls, they got on the break and got scores.

“We knew Burt would be defensive, but we still ran into them. We have a lot of work today because that wouldn’t beat any of those other teams.”
