Warning issued as heavy seas and wind to batter Donegal coastline

Met Eireann has issued two yellow warning today as strong winds and rough seas are set to batter Donegal’s coastline.

Met Eireann says that strong westerly winds will gust to gale force, and there will be high seas on all Atlantic coasts.

Gales will move in across the West on all coasts, with Met Eireann giving specific reference to the areas between Mizen Head to Slyne Head, and Slyne Head to Rossan Point in the south of the county.

A small craft warning has also been issued in light of the forecast gale-force winds.

Primary swells have been measured at 13 feet in areas such as Rosapenna as of 1:30 pm today – but the sea swell on Donegal’s coast is expected to become much larger as the evening draws in.

To check out the sea conditions of your area, the RNLI advise you use magicseaweed.com for up-to-date sea news.

In light of the unfavourable forecast, Flooding Ireland has said: “Do not expose yourself or others to risk on the coast.”
